Wellbeing by Design: A Retirement Village Project

Epping | Health & Wellbeing

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The design philosophy for this retirement village common area centers on creating a tranquil, inclusive sanctuary that seamlessly blends in with the surrounding natural beauty. It’s a space thoughtfully crafted to nurture the holistic wellbeing of the residents, gently encouraging them to step outside, breathe in the fresh air, and reconnect with nature and each other.

The design features an all-access boardwalk that meanders around an existing tree and the extended garden bed with Corten steel edges along the boardwalk gently lit to guide the way towards the common room and patio, ensuring safe and easy navigation.

Timber arbours with scented climbers are placed along the boardwalk to create a sense of visual interest and sensory engagement as one wander through. Ornamental planting in the garden softens the space and fills the shaded courtyard with vivid colours, all while maintaining those important open sightlines for safety and way finding.

To cater for various social preferences and activities, the patio area offers a diverse range of seating options. Residents can choose from intimate nooks designed for quiet conversations among small groups, flexible furniture arrangements that can be easily reconfigured for different occasions, comfortable lounges for relaxed individual enjoyment, and expansive bench seating ideal for larger gatherings and community events. This variety ensures every resident can find their perfect spot to relax, socialise, or simply enjoy the outdoors!
