Project Description

Cranbrook Road, Rose Bay | Aged Care

This unique, therapeutic aged care facility places the importance of maintaining the connection with the external landscape and garden for all residence, front and center. OUTHOUSE design was invited to be part of this project due to our extensive experience in designing not only healing and sensory gardens, but our attitude that gardens can offer so many more therapeutic benefits to all that engage with it. It’s not only the residents that will benefit on a daily basis, but the staff and family members that visit. If we create spaces that are a joy to be within, then more family members will enjoy coming and so enrich our residents lives.

By using a layered approach, each landscape is designed to move beyond purely functional and visual spaces into interactive, inclusive and therapeutic environments. Landscapes are specifically designed to improve the health and well-being of the residents through enhanced sensory stimulation, meaningful daily activities, reminiscence and to be used as tools for a range of therapies including horticultural therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and diversional therapy.

The therapeutic landscapes include a secured dementia specific garden and a mobility garden. Woven throughout the rest of the facility are a wide range of sensory and healing gardens as well as bold vertical gardens, communal areas and a roof top production garden incorporating bee hives and vegetable production areas.

This unique facility will only improve with time, the vertical gardens will flourish and create not just a visual canvas, but provide a native corridor across the site. The roof top garden provides a space to take time out and soak up the sun, or stay a bit longer and enjoy the incredible sunset across the amazing  Rose Bay vista. The main entrance to the facility is a green layered statement, with cooling water feature and scented planting, providing the sense and connection of arriving home, the feeling that all our residents deserve.

Beresford Hall is a landmark facility, its high standards and care are second to none, with a landscape that is both engaging and enriching for all those who share, residents, family and friends alike.
