As one of Australia’s premier suppliers of aged care services, our client is leading the way in how we care for our older population. They have a clear view that accommodation and associated healthcare services should enrich our sense of living, and the landscape plays a key role in wellness and stimulation, connecting people, the community and family members.
“I was lost for words when I think about how beautiful it was walking through. I have worked in aged care for about 12 years and I helped commissioned three new homes but I have never seen anything as stunning as Dural House. Walking out into the garden was just fabulous. It was just something totally different…”
Director of Nurse, Dural House
Due to our extensive experience, our team was approached to create construction documentation for a proposed landscape that will support the newest and largest addition to the group’s locations. Design aspects included the key arrival landscape with formal entrance planting, as well as extensive mass planting schemes across the overall site. A major component of this project was the delivery of a number of unique gardens that would be found intertwined within the building, comprising larger communal spaces and smaller bespoke getaways.
Key gardens such as the elevated inner courtyard provide larger areas for communal engagement with bespoke overhead shade structures, private seating zones and scented nooks for afternoon coffee catch ups. This extensive roof garden space incorporates unique garden sculptures and sensory planting to engage with younger visitors. Organic pathways with raised planters at varying heights create a sensory connection for all ages and abilities.
Smaller courtyards provide different microclimates and planting combinations, ensuring residents are provided with a variety of experiences throughout the seasons. Each courtyard offers something different, whether viewed from within the building or outside, and always providing a sense of connection to nature.
