KNOX GRAMMAR SCHOOL PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE

ABOUT THE PROJECT – IN PROGRESS

Following our successful design and installation of the Senior Boys Outdoor Space, OUTHOUSE design was approached to design the external balcony area within the new Performing Arts Centre of Knox Grammar School.

At OUTHOUSE design we appreciate how important a well-designed external interactive open space is to the enjoyment and development of our younger generation. However, more importantly a well-designed external space acts as an extension of the classroom, and is vital, in shaping the minds and wellbeing of our future generation.

This is even more important when creating a space that will not just support the creative mind, but rather stimulate creativity and engagement. So, the key to this balcony garden was to cater for a number of different learning situations, create both group seating for practice sessions, spaces for individuals to have a quiet moment to read and write music and broader multiple gathering areas for group performance and instruction

As with any external space, shade is vital and so working with Abacus Shade Structures, the team at OUTHOUSE design created a shade cover that wasn’t just practical, but again creative in its design. This together with lush seasonal planting, low maintenance timber seating and hard-wearing external fabrics, all go together to encourage the students outside.
