MISSION AUSTRALIA WELLBEING LANDSCAPE

Mount Druitt | Masterplanning

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Australian Institute of Landscape Designers and Managers
2018 –  National Gold Award & Best In Category Master Planning

Mission Australia have made a commitment to staff on-site and the broader Mount Druitt community to undertake a long term plan to rejuvenate this uninspiring, barren, large and complex site. This vital location acts as a safe central hub offering key community support services to a population of over 16,000 high need residents.

With such a diverse population, staff members deal with a broad range of issues including substance abuse, domestic violence, inter-generational long-term homelessness and social housing issues. Coupled with immediate daily needs for food, sanitary and drug dependency. The key imperative is to create an environment that is physically and psychologically safe and supportive not just for the community, but for Mission’s amazing staff, who on a daily basis manage and engage with extremely difficult and stressful situations.

The Master plan provides a long-term solution for the function and usability for Mission Australia Mt Druitt and ensures the flexibility for works to be undertaken through stages. The plan will act as a tangible business case and funding tool, a practical road map for construction and a reason to spread the word to local business and government to seek commitment, support and funding.
