Manly Vale Community Garden and Playground

Community gardens are opening up all over Australia at an amazing pace. OUTHOUSE Design has been working with Warringah Council in it’s first foray into this exciting area and recently celebrated the opening of the Manly Vale Community Garden and playground.

When an open space become available with potential, Warringah Council, saw the opportunity to not just deliver another playground, but to maybe think outside the box and do something different. OUTHOUSE Design were selected because of our experience working in, and for, local government.

We facilitated a number of Community consultation days which would establish the needs of the broader community. This extensive process resulted in a Master Plan which was embraced by all stakeholders. This project hosted a unique challenge to incorporate a community garden and an extensive playground in the same space. A Community group has now been established which will manage the day to day running of the Community garden, with Council’s guidance.

Much of the proposed planting from the Master plan has yet to be completed, in order that the Community group can enjoy enhancing the landscape and maintaining the site. The raised garden beds and allotment areas have been created, and are ready for our avid gardeners to till the soil and sew the seed in order to harvest their own produce this season!
